Earlier last year we had the great fortune of working on the prestigious National Galleries in Edinburgh. Home to Scotland’s national collection of fine art, it was a fantastic building to work on and feedback that we’ve received recently as certainly given us a glow of pride in the project.
Located on The Mound in central Edinburgh, the building was designed in a neoclassical style by William Henry Playfair and was first opened in 1859. It must be one of the most important buildings we’ve ever had the pleasure of working on and we were delighted when we were commissioned for the project.
We were commisioned to fit a variety of bespoke glazing units into the building and with the historical importance of the building, a sympathetic solution was required so that they did not detract from the primary windows. The windows also had to comply with the understandably strict Scottish conservation requirements which is something that we are well attuned to dealing with.
The glazing we installed has made a big impact to the working environment for the staff who work there, and they’ve taken the trouble to tell us how pleased they are with how much the new glazing has made a difference in keeping out the noise and draughts which used to hinder their working days.
We are pleased to say that we’ve now conducted an additional survey at the National Galleries to fit another series of windows.
